29 November 2019
We attended the Devon Tourism Awards at The Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay last night (28 November). It's fair to say that it was a fantastic celebration of the dedication and commitment that the county offers it's visitors. We were proud to be a sponsor of the Self Catering of the Year award and it was an honour to present the awards to the worthy winners.
A record 240 entries were received from across Devon, with 88 selected as finalists and a further 20 received Commended status in 27 different categories. We were treated to a high tech ‘LED juggling’ show from ‘Feeding the Fish’ and two inspirational presentations from Michael Smith, Co-Founder of the Venus Company, and Kate Salmon, part of the ‘Row for the Ocean’ rowing team that became the fastest all-female team in the 2018 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.
Now in it's 10th year the competition has seen a number of changes with new entry forms, new processes and change for the judging process, which now sees more focus on digital presence and evidence.
The night saw several special awards, with North Hayne Farm Cottages taking the prestigious Winner of Winners award alongside Gold awards for Access and Inclusivity and Self Catering.
Commenting after the Awards, organiser Robin Barker commented: “The Devon Tourism Awards have been an extraordinary success story, helping hundreds of tourism businesses of all sizes to excel and gain the recognition they deserve. I am humbled to be part of it – and congratulate everyone for their innovation, passion and sheer hard work.”
A full list of all the winners is available on the Devon Tourism Awards.
Huge congratulations to all of the finalists and winners in these hard-fought awards.
