Rise in overseas tourists expected to visit UK during the festive season
A new report indicates that the UK is set to be a popular destination for overseas visitors during the Christmas period.
The Expedia group analysed the searches for people looking to stay in the UK during December from its several online travel agents throughout the months of September and October. The findings revealed that the majority of searches are from Europe, with visitors from Italy, Spain and Germany most likely to travel to the UK.
The travellers from these specific countries have experienced a record breaking increase in the number of UK hotel searches, with Spain experiencing a 200% increase and Italy over 250%.
The research also showed that the rise in the amount of American travellers searching for hotels in the UK has also increased by more than double. The top two most popular UK destinations searched for by overseas visitors are London and Edinburgh. Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Glasgow also made the top ten.
