Record number of international visits to UK during January
According to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics, the number of international visitors to the UK increased in January 2016. Compared to last year, the figures rose by six percent, breaking a record for the traditionally quieter month.
The figures showed that more than 2.5 million visits were made to the UK in January 2016 and the visitor spending reached £1.28 billion. Although these figures are not as high as they were during last year’s summer months, they have provided a very encouraging start to the year.
Patricia Yates, director of VisitBritain said “These record-breaking figures highlight the increasing year-round importance of inbound tourism to the UK economy.”
Yates continued “Tourism remains one of our fastest growing export industries but also one of the most globally competitive which is why we continue to showcase, through our international marketing campaigns, just why Britain should top people’s list as a must-go now destination.”
