Sue Oscroft is the owner of Number 8, a three -bedroom B&B in Cheltenham. The business is the result of a vision that Sue has had for over ten years, knowing that she always wanted to run her own bed & breakfast establishment. She attended a course to find out all she needed to know, spent over a year searching for the right property and found it in Cheltenham! The business was officially launched in early-November 2018 and Sue knew that she’d benefit from the assistance of a ‘helpful advisor’ with Quality in Tourism to perfect her offering
Number 8 Cheltenham is an elegant Victorian townhouse situated in a quiet central area and ideally placed for all the attractions and amenities of the popular spa town. The house still maintains many of its original features but Sue has created a modern and elegant feel inside.
Our assessor found the property to be of five-star standard, however Sue was keen to be awarded four-star Gold in order that she could ensure expectations were exceeded and offer a consistent high level across all aspects of the guest experience.
Although the experience was superb, our assessor and Sue discussed small areas of improvement and future opportunities. Sue is keen to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Our assessor was able to give Sue some hints and tips to improve some of the great work that Sue is already doing. For example, breakfast ingredients are locally sourced, but this isn’t highlighted enough for the customers. Since the visit Sue has already amended her breakfast menus!
Sue says “I found the visit and whole experience with Quality in Tourism to be extremely beneficial; there are some things that you just don’t consider, such as a change in lighting or a foldaway chair. The advice I received from the assessor was very practical will be easy for me to implement, without significant costs. As a new fledgling business, I need to keep a close eye on the costs, whilst delivering that quality of service which I am passionate about.”
