Your life in their hands: Top 3 tips for accommodation hosts

There are lots of things to consider when you are an operator within the ever growing sharing economy; from making sure that your booking process runs as smooth as possible to ensuring that your cleanliness is top notch the list can almost seem never-ending.

But what about all of the other aspects to running an accommodation business that sometimes end up at the bottom of the list? We’ve pulled together a handy top tips checklist to help you make sure you are operating to the best standard possible:

  1. The Mortgage Check

Yes, that’s right, you’d better check your mortgage! Especially if you are operating as a Bed & Breakfast and sharing your home with guests, it is imperative that you make the necessary checks with your provider to ensure you have the most appropriate mortgage in place. Of course, some alterations may be required but at least you can rest easy knowing that it’s all legitimate.

  1. Applying for the relevant Insurances

Similar to mortgages, it is also important to ensure that you have applied and/or have the correct and relevant insurances in place. A good place to start is making sure you have the following:

  • Public Liability Insurance: For any slips, trips or falls that may occur on your property.
  • Buildings and Content Insurance: To make sure that your property is covered inside and out.
  • Employers Liability Insurance: If you have employed a small team such as cleaners or housekeepers, it is important to have this insurance in place.

Having these insurances will not only to help keep your guests covered but also yourself and your property, plus it’s one less thing to worry about.

  1. Being fit for purpose
