Following an investigation, the Mail on Sunday found that many homes let through the property rental site, Airbnb are increasingly being turned into ‘pop-up’ brothels and huge party homes. The investigation found that an astonishing 12,000 flats and houses are being un-lawfully sub-let through the site in which tenants are making a fortune often without the owners knowing. Airbnb was set up in 2008 to allow homeowners to let out their spare rooms or entire properties however the system is becoming majorly exploited on a large scale yet the owners still are not required to be licensed. It has been demanded by MPs that action to prevent illegal sub-letting and that Airbnb owners should be licensed to be allowed to advertise properties on the site.
