Airbnb issues have escalated in Edinburgh as the number of entire houses and flats available to let have increased from 5,474 to 7,366 in the past twelve months. Although this increase seems positive, critics say that local residents are suffering due to the massive increase in privately rented accommodation. Discover more here.
Not only is this damaging for the locals, Airbnb and other booking platforms enable hosts to list properties without any safety checks so it also puts many consumers at risk without them even knowing. It is not compulsory for properties to have even the most basic safety equipment such as smoke alarms or carbon monoxide detectors.
