An annual assessment by one of VisitEngland's professional assessors, which will include a 'mystery guest' overnight stay every year for all hotels, irrespective of your star rating. For guest accommodation and hostels, the frequency of overnight stays varies, depending on the star rating (1-3 years) and accolades. Please note that all other schemes have annual day visit assessments.

A full written report after each assessment, outlining any strengths within the structure of your establishment and any areas for improvement, with individual scores for each area of the business assessed.
If you are a new member, you will receive a free exterior sign to display at your establishment to promote your star rating to customers and an annual certificate to display in your reception. All participants can purchase additional signs and stickers from a wide range of signage.
The chance for your hotel or guest accommodation to be acknowledged with a Silver or Gold award, which is given in recognition for high achievement and exceptional quality. Self-catering and serviced apartments can be assessed for a Gold award in recognition of the top scoring properties.
For those establishments offering their guests a quality and choice of breakfast, service and hospitality, which exceeds expectations at their star rating. This award recognises Hotels and B&B's where they have gone the extra mile.
