To be considered within our hotel category, your establishment must have a minimum of 5 bedrooms, be fully licensed and offer dinner (unless suitable for grading in the Metro Hotel category). Additionally, all of your bedrooms must have an ensuite option or a private bathroom.

These Scheme Designators have been specifically developed to help consumers understand the different types of accommodation that are currently available. (Please note, the designator is discussed at the time of the assessment with the assessor)

Hotel

Serviced accommodation providing hotel services with a minimum of 5 bedrooms.

Country House Hotel

A Country House hotel with ample grounds or gardens, in a rural or semi-rural situation with an emphasis on peace and quiet.

Small Hotel

Smaller hotels with a maximum of just 20 bedrooms. These establishments will be personally run by the proprietor. May not provide all services expected at the star rating. Dispensations might be available

Town House Hotel

High quality town or city centre properties of individual and distinctive style with a maximum of 50 bedrooms. High staff-to-guest ratio. Public areas may be limited. Possibly no dinner served but room service available instead. Where a dining room is not available, room service breakfast is acceptable.

Metro Hotel

A town or city hotel providing full hotel services with the exception of dinner. Within easy walking distance of a range of places to eat.

  • Review the Quality Standard relating to your category to check that you are happy with what we take in to account at the time of the assessment.

  • Complete the application form provided and return it to Quality in Tourism along with your total payment, which must be made payable to Quality in Tourism. We are also able to accept credit/debit card payments, BACs payments and payments by direct debit. Alternatively you can use the Hotel Online Application

The participation fee is paid on an annual basis and your joining fee is only applicable in Year 1.
