Chalet3

A chalet is a building that is normally constructed in timber, part brick or UPVC.  They are used as holiday accommodation on a seasonal basis rather than as a permanent residence, due to the lack of incidentals to the enjoyment of a dwelling. These properties are often restricted in size and may be single storey or dual storey and will usually be situated on a chalet park comprising of similar properties and where common facilities are often shared e.g. refuse disposal facilities. Chalets require individual planning consent and are permanent structures.

N.B. Fully brick/stone built permanent houses or cottages – or caravans and twin units-will not be eligible for this scheme. VisitBritain and its representatives, Quality in Tourism, reserve the right to refuse these types of properties entry into the Chalet Accommodation National Quality Assessment Scheme.

There are no separate designators in the Chalet Scheme, as it relies on the star ratings to differentiate.

  • Review the Quality Standard relating to your category to check that you are happy with what we take in to account at the time of the assessment.
  • Check the fees and benefits section to work out the costs involved or use our helpful  Chalets Fees Calculator.
  • Complete the application form provided and return it to Quality in Tourism along with your total payment, which must be made payable to Quality in Tourism. We are also able to accept credit/debit card payments, BACs payments and payments by direct debit. Alternatively you can use the Chalets Online Calculator

The participation fee is paid on an annual basis and your joining fee is only applicable in Year 1.
